Ted Little, York ME Board of Selectmen, community leader dies at 80

YORK, Maine Family, friends and colleagues remember Edward Ted  Little as a good friend and hardworking community leader. Little, a current member of the York Budget Committee and former longtime member of the town s Board of Selectmen, died Sunday morning at 80 years old, according to Sue Little, his wife of 57 years. He leaves behind four children. He was a wonderful husband, and he was a wonderful dad, Sue Little said. In some ways, the COVID-19 pandemic was a gift of more time spent together, she said. Along with his public efforts to serve the community, Ted Little helped in more subtle ways. One small example, Sue said, is that he would often give rides to people without cars. He was very gentle, she added.

York selectmen laud town clerk, reaffirm anti-racism stance

YORK, Maine In what is likely to be her last appearance before the Board of Selectmen in her role as town clerk/tax collector, Mary-Anne Szeniawski graciously accepted the board s remarks of gratitude Monday night. Szeniawski, who has served the town since 1979, said she shares credit for all her good work with Deputy Clerk/Tax Collector Mary Indiano, who is retiring after 40 years of service. Behind every good woman is a good woman,  she said. Szeniawski, who announced in January that she won t seek reelection, appeared before the board Monday to provide an update on protocols to be followed in the May 22 election. Public health precautions will remain in effect, including social distancing of 6 feet and mask-wearing strongly suggested, Szeniawski said. Only two people declined to wear masks at the town s polling place during last fall s election, she said.

York Hospital gets zero COVID shots this week for Phase 1b in Maine

The hospital had hoped to hold a vaccination clinic this week for Mainers 70 and older. By Dan Bancroft and Steven Porter yorkweekly@seacoastonline.com YORK, Maine After state officials loosened the eligibility criteria for COVID-19 vaccinations last week, York Hospital held its first vaccination clinic Saturday that included members of the public 70 or older. York Hospital spokesperson Jean Kolak said the clinic went well, with nearly 300 people receiving vaccines. That included 135 health care providers and first responders under Phase 1a and 161 residents age 70 or older under Phase 1b, she said. People are clearly eager to receive the vaccine, and the hospital looks forward to meeting the need, Kolak said.

York's new Mt. Agamenticus lease includes bathroom, parking upgrades

York s new Mt. Agamenticus lease includes bathroom, parking upgrades By Dan Bancroft YORK, Maine  Representatives from the town and York Water District gathered Monday at the summit of Mt. Agamenticus to ceremonially lock in the terms of a new lease agreement at the site. The amendment extends the term of the present lease through 2050, and it provides for two 20-year renewal terms. The goal is to guarantee long-term public access to the town-owned land atop the mountain while protecting the water district’s interests regarding water quality. In addition to the extension, the amendment allows for the widening of the access road, if needed, formalizes existing parking areas and provides for composting toilets and the bathroom buildings to house them to be built at the base and the summit.
