GROSSE POINTE WOODS/ST. CLAIR SHORES Two new amenities at Lake Front Park opened to the public last weekend.
On the morning of April 17, Grosse Pointe Woods City Council members and administrators gathered at the park for two ribbon-cuttings: one to unveil the new vehicular bridge and a second to open the new kayak launch area.
Also present were members of the city’s engineering firm, Anderson, Eckstein and Westrick Inc., in Shelby Township, and the contractor, E.C. Korneffel Co., of Trenton.

Grosse Pointe Woods Mayor Robert Novitke dies

(WXYZ) â The city of Grosse Pointe Woods is mourning the passing of Mayor Robert Novitke.
An obituary posted on the city s website says he died on Sunday, March 14. He was reportedly 74-years-old.
Novitke had been mayor since November of 1990. Prior to that, he served on the city council for 13 years.
A lawyer and US Marine who served in Vietnam, Novitke is survived by his wife, five children and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
