NMMA Confirms Industry Growth Mar 5, 2021 The National Marine Manufacturers Association’s virtual State of the Boating Industry address yesterday featured an overview of the marine market and the presentation of awards. NMMA president Frank Hugelmeyer announced that the boating industry grew 12 percent during the last year, with more than 300,000 new boats sold and 100,000 first-time buyers accounting for a 13-year high in sales. Hugelmeyer said the marine sector accounts for $778 billion in gross economic output, supports 5.2 million jobs, and that the boating/fishing segment is a $170 billion contributor to the outdoor-recreation economy. “The boating industry has been extremely fortunate,” he said. “For the most part, the wind has been at our back.”

Helping students navigate the financial aid process January 22, 2021 The complicated procedure has become even more difficult during the pandemic Back in pre-COVID times, Mandy Branch spent a lot of her time out in the field, giving presentations at high school financial aid nights, staffing tables at college resource fairs and meeting with students at their schools to help them navigate the ever-daunting FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid) form. Now, like many of the rest of us, her job as assistant director of outreach, training and communications for the University of Georgia’s Office of Financial Aid has gone virtual, and Branch and her team have been learning how to adjust and make it work.
