the photo journalist robert kappa. he landed with the first wave at 6:30 the morning on omaha beach and he took hundreds of photographs. only 10 or 11 shots survived. those still photographs said more to me about what it was like to land on those beaches than anything i had ever seen. so i said, i want the whole landing to look like these nine photographs.
