Swiggy said it was expecting a more than 50% increase in orders on December 31 compared with other days of this month, due to limited dine out options, on ground restrictions and more people choosing to party at home. Swiggy calculates orders in absolute numbers and not run-rate, it said.
“Swiggy is onboarding around 4,000 more new restaurants now compared to the pre-Covid period. Over the last few weeks, we have strengthened our delivery fleet to cater to this surge in demand,” a spokesperson said, and added that the spike in order volume and value that Swiggy witnessed with the cricketing and festive season continued to show an upward trend in December.
