43-year-old Robert Hebert of Lafayette is dead following a shooting Wednesday afternoon in a neighborhood in the 1800 block of E. Simcoe Street.
According to a press release from Lafayette Police, officers responded to the scene around 6:40 PM to find Hebert suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

A second victim believed to be a bystander was also shot. That victim s injury was non-life threatening and that person has been released from the hospital.
There is no information on a suspect at this time.

The suspect entered the home in Pearland, outside Houston, just after DeHoyos and wife Lisa had gone to bed April 17, he said.
When David went downstairs to investigate, the suspect came at him with a hammer, according to the report. I stuck the pistol in his side and I pulled the trigger three times, he said.
David and Lisa DeHoyos say the incident was random, and they'd never met the attacker before. During the attack, David shot the alleged burglar. All three survived.
