Thursday marked a new day in the local battle against COVID-19 as the first vaccines to protect against the disease arrived and were given to health care workers at Salina Regional Health Center.
The hospital received 800 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and will be giving them over five days to health care workers most at risk for exposure, such as those working in the intensive care unit, respiratory therapy and the emergency department.
The first vaccine in Salina was given around 2 p.m. Thursday in a conference room at the hospital to ICU nurse Kelly Winslow, who was excited for this day to arrive.
