NILES The city school district is moving in the right direction, the financial planning and supervision commission said at a recent meeting.
In early 2019, Niles City School District entered into a state-declared fiscal emergency due to a forecasted negative trend. At the end of fiscal year 2018, the total unreserved fund balance was negative $326,000, thus resulting in the emergency. Commission member Giovanne Merlo said if trends continued the way they were shown, the school district would be in trouble.
“Just like all entities, they have to prove they can sustain the expenditures with the given revenue,” Merlo said.
At a Monday commission meeting, however, the school district was told it is moving in the right direction.
