Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said Tuesday he has no plans to mandate city workers receive the newly released vaccines for COVID-19, but stressed the importance of it by getting injected himself.
Duggan received his first dose of the vaccine Tuesday ahead of the first doses set to be given Wednesday to rank-and-file city employees. The first doses are set to be given to 30 employees in the Detroit Health Department, as well as to first responders employed by the city s fire department, Duggan said.

Detroit The city s first responders and front-line workers will be the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccines starting Wednesday, Mayor Mike Duggan said.
The city, in partnership with Henry Ford Health System, will be deploying the first round of Moderna vaccines this week prioritizing 1,200 medical first responders and emergency technicians who work for the Detroit Fire Department, Duggan announced Tuesday. Our health care workers have seen what COVID has done to this community. A lot of folks in this town lost a lot of family members. I think people know what s at stake, Duggan said. We re approaching this with empathy, understanding. Our firefighters, when they come in tomorrow, will have Henry Ford medical staff taking them through the science behind this.

but there are fire marshals inside doing their investigation as we speak trying to figure out what caused this fire. this was a two-alarm blaze that was an extensive fire in a large home. our camera got here an hour after the first call and there was fire in the rafters here. a deputy fire chief tells me that firefighters got here just before 7:30 and saw flames coming from a large second floor bedroom on three sides of the house. they got in the attics, the flames did. also along the roof here. there was a teenager in the house and he was able to get out okay before the firefighters tackled the flames. the units made entry into the house and gained access to the upstairs and anguished the fire within 15 minutes of the first unit s arrival on scene. reporter: the u.s. marshals responded to the scene because this is a federal judge s home. they are here with the judge. and the fire fax fire marshal s office leading the investigation to figure out how the fire started. ther
