BATH The future USS Daniel Inouye, Bath Iron Works’ 37th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, left the Bath shipyard Wednesday and cruised down the Kennebec River for its first at-sea trials.
More than 100 people gathered around Fort Popham, perched at the mouth of the Kennebec River in Phippsburg. Spectators waved at the $4 billion warship as it passed. The ship blasted its horn in greeting.

JLL is adding a venerated life sciences leader to its brokerage team, bolstering its team to address the booming lab market.
Robert Coughlin, the longtime president and CEO of the nonprofit Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, will join JLL early next year as managing director of the firm’s life sciences industry practice, navigating arguably the industry’s hottest real estate.
“Biotechs need a strong partner who can help them identify opportunities to optimize their portfolios, whether it’s through site selection, tax incentives or operational efficiencies,” Coughlin said in a statement. I’m eager to help them improve their real estate assets so they can focus on research, development and solving unmet medical needs for patients.”
JLL is headquartered in Chicago but also operates in Boston.
In his new position, he will work in the life sciences sector in the Greater Boston market, as well as other primary and secondary life science markets, according to JLL. He is set to begin in his job in early 2021.

MassBio, a Cambridge nonprofit trade association representing the Massachusetts life science industry, will begin a nationwide search for a new CEO following its current president and CEO’s departure in early 2021.
Outgoing president and CEO Robert Coughlin announced his impending departure in an email to members early Monday morning.
“After more than 13 years leading this wonderful organization, today I am announcing that I will be stepping down as president & CEO of MassBio in early 2021,” Coughlin wrote.
The organization’s current chief operating officer, Kendalle Burlin O’Connell, will be promoted to president and COO, and vice president of public affairs Zach Stanley will be promoted to executive vice president. They will be part of the team leading a nationwide search for a new CEO.
