McMahon is Mayor for a Day

Due to the pandemic last year, Kieran McMahon couldn’t fulfill his duties as Mayor for a Day; therefore, Mayor Carl Kuren once again this year named McMahon as the Mayor for a Day at council’s March meeting. McMahon will fulfill his duties Wednesday, March 17. Kieran was born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 21, 1951 to the late Peter and Mary McMahon. He has lived his entire life in Wilkes-Barre Twp. Kieran was brought up in the Georgetown section of the township. He attended St. Joseph’s Monastery and elementary school and Wilkes-Barre Twp. High School. He moved to the Blackman section of the township where he resides with his wife of 41 years, Pamela Remakus McMahon. They are the proud parents of three children, Tara, Kieran Jr. and Meghan, and two grandchildren, Clare and Toby.

Speaking of snail mail

I am very confident that I am not the only one who has or had a problem with receiving mail several days late, and perhaps, even many days longer for the past several months. There doesn’t seem to be any problem, however, with receiving junk mail. My niece, who lives in Frederick, Md., sent me a Christmas card which was postmarked Dec. 23 in Baltimore and wasn’t delivered to me until two weeks after Christmas. She told me she received my Christmas card three weeks after Christmas! Just recently, I sent a letter to a friend in the township, who lives only a quarter of a mile away, that didn’t arrive until nine days later! The envelope was postmarked in Philadelphia! Another letter that I had mailed on Feb. 3 to Bear Creek wasn’t received until Friday, Feb. 12, also. One of my sons informed me that he mailed out his check to pay off his credit card balance 10 days before the due date. He received notification that his check was received after the due date and he was
