how is all of this playing out inside the trump administration right now. the president needs a new national security advisor. he does, indeed, wolf, and that is one of the top orders of business this week. in addition to the executive order on immigration that evan was just talking about, one of the other chief items of business this week is filling that position of national security advisor. so important in any administration. certainly in this one. i am told there is not a frontrunner, but we have a list of four people being considered. let s take a look at some of those names right now. one is keith kellogg. he is the acting director of the nsa. he is one of the people being considered. one is former ambassador john bolton. one is army lieutenant general robert caslen, the superintendent of the west point academy. finally, arm strategist
a lot of guys talked about do have a military background. who do you think should be the right fit for the trump administration? i think donald trump is looking at a military person to go in there. now of course there s john bolton, who is a former u.s. ambassador to the u.n., very conservative voice on national security issues. he could certainly do that job, no question about it. the other part of that is, two of the people that are being considered, you have general robert caslen and lieutenant general h.r. mcmaster, they re both active duty military officers. they ll have less of a choice in whether or not they get to say no to president trump s potential offer to them. they will have to basically salute smartly, as the saying goes, and take the job. is there one that you think rises to the top? if i were to advise the president on this, i would say general mcmaster is certainly
we don t know what he s doing specifically today but advisers told us there are at least four names, perhaps others will be included, that are up for this very significant position in the white house, as national security adviser. you ve got a mix of military experience, national security experience, among them the acting national security adviser keith kellogg, lieutenant general robert caslen, lieutenant general h.r. mcmaster and former ambassador john bolton. that list could be expanded if the president doesn t feel he s getting the right chemistry or the interview process as he would determine it. so his advisers don t want to get ahead of the president on this but they have also said that he is making a commitment to these candidates, that they would be able to hire their own staff, set their own team in place, and would not have to inherit the staff that had begun to be assembled by michael flynn, who was pulled out of the job. so that s where we are at this point.
