J&J s robust coronavirus vaccine generates a lasting immune response in an early-stage clinical trial.
A U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel on Friday voted to endorse Johnson & Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine, clearing the way for FDA leaders to grant emergency use authorization amid the ongoing fight against COVID-19.
The vote was 22-0, with all committee members voting in favor of endorsing the jab for emergency use approval.
The committee was charged with voting on the following question: Based on the totality of scientific evidence available, do the benefits of the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine outweigh its risk for use in individuals 18 years of age and older?

It took about two days of constant phone calls, emails with friends and acquaintances and social media posts for Margo Schlanger to figure out how to successfully secure a COVID-19 vaccine appointment for her 82-year-old father. New York City’s contact-tracing team will be put to the test over the winter amid a new surge in Covid-19 cases that is expected to continue through the holiday season.
While the introduction of Covid-19 vaccines has given New Yorkers hope the worst part of the pandemic will be over in 2021, the city still must navigate through a difficult winter. New York City’s seven-day average of new and probable Covid-19 cases has exceeded 3,000 for most of December, up from about 250 new cases daily at the start of September.
Ted Long, executive director of the city’s Covid-19 Test and Trace Corps, said his team has been preparing for this moment. The corps added 1,000 members since the summer, and now has a total 4,000 staffers.
