22,000 more H-2B visas to be released in boost to seafood industry

Federal officials announced Tuesday that they will make 22,000 more temporary worker visas available to meet the needs of seasonal employers, including those in Maryland s seafood industry. The news comes a few weeks after Maryland s senators and Gov. Larry Hogan called on the federal government to release more of the H-2B visas in letters sent before the start of the blue crab harvest season on April 1.  The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said it will add another 22,000 visas for seasonal workers in the coming months. Of those visas, 6,000 will be reserved for people coming from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Looking ahead a week, Hammerheads Dockside will present an acoustic performance by country performer (and Season 17 American Idol contestant) Dalton Elliott from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 25.

OCEAN CITY, Md.   Ocean City has introduced a revised noise ordinance to more effectively target noise pollution on the Boardwalk. The newest rules join the 25-year long fight to control the noise emanating from Boardwalk performers and some businesses. If someone s radio, musical instrument and  sound amplification device exceeds a certain level they can be charged with a misdemeanor, according to the amended ordinance introduced Tuesday. Yelling, whistling, singing and other acts that surpass a certain noise level can also be a violation under the ordinance. The town is proposing these new rules to address the issues of excessive noise on the Boardwalk that affects businesses and residences., according to the proposed ordinance.
