The European Union will introduce a government-controlled and cross border “digital identity” app for EU citizens as a part of the bloc’s post-pandemic “transition”.
In a speech given to the EU’s 2021 Digital Assembly on Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that Brussels is planning to develop a government digital wallet, saying: “We want to offer to Europeans a new digital identity.”
“It will allow everyone to control their identity online, and to interact with governments and businesses, across the EU,” von der Leyen said.
The top Eurocrat claimed that such a government system would protect individual privacy from big tech Silicon Valley companies, with the safeguarding of information being left up to the globalist institution.
Why Governments Are Vulnerable to Social Engineering Attacks
Several factors make government agencies particularly vulnerable to social engineering attacks. The use of outdated legacy systems is one of them. Government IT is antiquated and tends to involve data-transfer standards that are years behind the norm in the private sector.
When data moves from one government agency to another or between various different agencies or bureaucracies, it often has to be “manually” transferred via less secure methods like portable temporary storage or email.
For cybercriminals, this creates a golden opportunity for very simple methods of theft. Social engineering attacks, rather than boutique malware, have become the primary methods for threat actors targeting government departments.

Online businesses are losing potential customers and substantial amounts of revenue because they re dependent on traditional password systems and outdated customer authentication models, says a report released Tuesday by an access and identity management company.
Lost customers and revenues are caused by password sharing and friction created at websites by onerous authentication procedures, according to the report by Transmit Security derived from a survey of 600 U.S-based consumers 18 to 54 years old.
The survey found that half of the responding consumers admitted sharing a password to at least one of their accounts; and 41 percent acknowledged they share their passwords often.
