Fontaine Construction awarded $46 3M contract to build new Shaw School

Lisa Redmond Special to the Millbury-Sutton Chronicle MILLBURY After an 11th-hour decision by the low bidder, CTA Construction Co. Inc., to withdraw its bid, the R.E. Shaw School Building Committee on Monday, Feb. 22, unanimously awarded the contract to build a new Shaw Elementary School to the next lowest bidder, Springfield-based Fontaine Construction, for a total of $46.3 million. Fontaine’s bid, which includes extras such as a PV system, comfort station and sport lighting, is roughly $3 million less than the $49 million allocated by the town to replace the existing 46-year-old Shaw School at 58 Elmwood St. A total of nine companies submitted bids, ranging from the CTA’s total $45 million bid to the O&G Industries, which submitted the highest total at $51.7 million.
