Great white shark is captured near Perth s Cottesloe Beach

A massive great white shark has been spotted chasing a tiger shark in the water off one of Perth s most popular swimming beaches.  The 5.3metre great white is the second-longest shark recorded in Western australia and was seen lurking in the waters at Cottesloe Beach on Friday.  The sighting prompted the beach to close twice as Department of Fisheries authorities attempted to catch the shark and tag it. In harrowing footage captured by Nine News, Fisheries teams are seen hanging over the edge of a boat to tag the great white after it was caught in drumlines. The 5.3 metre long beast is the second largest shark recorded in the state and was spotted twice at Cottesloe Beach on Friday.

Most dangerous Australian beaches as eight people have died from shark attacks

Eight Australians have been killed in unprovoked shark attacks this year, which is the country s highest number since 1934. Fatal shark attacks occur all across Australia, but the most shark attack prone spot in recent years is the New South Wales far north coast. One in six shark attacks have taken place in that region according to research conducted by Professor Rob Harcourt at the department of Marine Ecology at Macquarie University.   Northern NSW may boast some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, but your risk of being bitten by a great white shark is most likely to occur there than anywhere else in Australia. Shark attacks, while still rare, have increased in Australian waters over the past 20 years. In 2020, there have been eight fatalities so far, the highest level of deaths since 1929. In Western Australia, you are more likely to be attacked around Esperance in the state s south where there have been three fatalities in three years. In Queensland, Cid Harbour on Whitsunday Island has been the scene of a spate of attacks since the November 5, 2018 fatality of Victorian medical researcher Dr Daniel Christidis. Tiger sharks are more likely to attack in warmer waters.
