The Red Sox drafted Whitt in the 15th round of the 1972 amateur draft. He was chosen one pick before Jason Thompson, a terrific first baseman for the Tigers.
Duane Ward turns 58 today.
Duane is number 2 on the Blue Jays all-time saves list. Jordan Romano is ninth on the list, at 40. He’d likely need three seasons to catch up to Ward’s 120.
