Finance convener Rob Munn’s defeat in Leith Walk is the second time he has lost his seat because of a controversial feature of the Single Transferable Vote electoral system.
Tories in Edinburgh suffered huge losses in the council elections as the SNP was returned as the biggest party while the Lib Dems doubled their numbers and the Greens also made gains.
A Tory councillor who is to quit at the local elections in May has launched an outspoken attack on leaders of the Capital's SNP-Labour administration, claiming they had created an "absolutely toxic" atmosphere in the council and were "not fit to run the city".
