CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Kounter Dining in Rock Hill may be the city’s newest restaurant, but it has an historic past. Chef Rob Masone of Kounter joined Wilson this morning to talk about how their location was the the site of the Friendship 9 civil rights protest site, well known as the location of the 1961 sit-in.
Kounter Restaurant uses farm to table fresh ingredients for their innovative and palate pleasing menu which will give you an Instagram worthy experience. Kounter is open Tuesday through Sunday and is located at 135 East Main Street in Rock Hill. Reservations are suggested. Reservations can be made at their website kounterdining.com.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - Willie McCleod, one of the surviving members of the Friendship Nine, has passed away at the age of 76.
McCleod was one of nine students from Rock Hillâs Friendship College that were arrested, went to jail, and served 30 days on a chain gang for sitting at an all-whites lunch counter inside the local McCroryâs store in 1961.
Rather than pay the fine, they took the time - and pioneered the âJail, No Bailâ concept, which was widely used in the Civil Rights movement.

Dating back to the Stonewall riots, allyship has been a vital component in the continued fight against the oppression, discrimination, social injustice and inequality plagued by the LGBTQ community. Simply put, an ally, also referred to as a straight ally to distinguish from other types of allyship, is someone who in some way supports LGBTQ people.
