Driver-less shuttles may be built in Christchurch - a $20 million boon to city

Technology companies are being lured to Christchurch and could pump millions of dollars into the local economy. A world-leading self-automated transport company is proposing shifting all its offshore manufacturing from China to Christchurch – a move forecast to bring $20 million to the local economy each year. HMI Technologies executive chairman Mohammed Hikmet said Covid-19 had made it difficult to manufacture the technical components of its intelligent transport systems offshore. It was now looking to shift its company and manufacturing to Christchurch.
