As snow began to blanket the New York metropolitan area Wednesday afternoon, many residents found themselves realizing they were without the essentials, from boots to shovels.
“We’re scrambling,” said Natacha Rousseau, a resident of Bridgewater, Conn., of her last-minute shopping runs. She was successful in her search for some items, such as deicer for the driveway, but still was trying to track down a pair of snow boots in her size.
The storm, a nor’easter that could cover New York City in 8 to 14 inches of snow and similarly affect areas across the region by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, is rare in terms of its timing. The city doesn’t typically see storms with more than a foot of snow before the start of winter, according to weather experts.
