CHRIS CUOMO: Look, now we all know the proverb. Okay? And in fact, that former president, George W. Bush, is one of the few Republicans left who get the reality that his party is in a position of doubling down on a bad thing, a toxic tailspin.
And it is time for all of us, especially the Democrats, to realize that they are about to get bitten by the minority party again, and they need to figure out what to do about it. I want you to remember 2010, then-Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made it clear what his mission was as it pertained to President Obama.
weeks. in these negotiations, these high level meetings, there is a lot of emotion. a lot at stake. i have to believe there was at that meeting. these guys, men and women in these conversations, they should be able to have frank conversations. when dick armiey and senator rob byrd, the king of the senate at the time, got is that a shouting match. you didn t have to hear about that. they initiated a tax relief and a balanced budget act. what we want is substance and progress. dick durbin should have his ipad taken away for a couple of weeks. i have to tell you what about that point that he is making. even if it did happen, dick durbin shouldn t have said anything about it. i agree. behind closed doors people should have more latitude.
rob byrd barely making it each day. the argument we control the senate, isn t true. you know it. we and the budget? we passed budget. the democratic and republican leaders signed if law by the president. you can keep repeating that but you are ignoring the budget control act that the republicans had on bipartisan basis. bret: when you talk specifics about the future, you were on the simpson-bowles and voted for commission. i did. bret: do you think the president should or will get specific in this convention about how to deal with the big ticket items, the $16 trillion in debt. how to deal with that on the long-term? it is a challenge. keep in mind when george w. bush became president we had a surplus. president clinton produced
prominent in mississippi? that does not make sense. brian: you do not like a science building to study the automotive industry from levin. guest: we have studied and it they lost money so we know exactly, we did not have to spend pork to michigan to do this. people to not thing of levin as a huge porker but you look at the list, that is a lot of money. and rob byrd? guest: and how could you not mention robert byrd. he passed away this year but he was the kick of pork and he surpassed all records when it came to pork and there is a project $39 million he got for in building that will not be built now, but look at that, $1.2 million for the coal industry in china? don t they own enough of our debt that we have to start funding their pork projects? brian: seven of the ten pork spenders are democrats and three are from hawaii.
