atlantic beach, you can rest assured that we re receiving our part of the problems that are associated with the hurricane, with the exception of tide water. have you heard that residents may not be taking this seriously as they should? all of my people are taking this seriously. we make we make sure that all people are notified of the seriousness of the hurricane. those who have moved into the area of late, and who have never experienced this, we re sure that our people are keenly aware of the seriousness of the hurricane. mayor, when will you feel best that the worst has passed? hopefully, the worst will have passed, i would say, perhaps tomorrow, for this area, but tomorrow evening, about between tomorrow afternoon,
and it will be closed all the way through, basically, monday morning at the earliest. so the officials are doing the right thing, here. it looks like we have a couple more high tides to go through. that s when it will get interesting. we ll start seeing the rain as we go through the day on saturday. saturday will be the day that coastal new jersey goes through the transition where the winds pick up. you see the outer bands and once we hit a high tide into saturday night, we might be talking about water here. where i m standing on the boardwalk and there will be another high tide on sunday morning between 6:00 and 8:00, depending on where you are on the coastline, that could be the doozy. that s when the central circulation will be close to us. that will be the worst high tide and the worst winds. as the system moves away, i would say overnight sunday into monday, that s when things will calm down but the surge is going to be immense. i ll be standing on an area, basically, i won t be a
power outages and i haven t received any calls regarding traffic accidents or anything such as that and i m very pleased, of course, about this. sir, is this going to be a as you know, the storm will be mainly on the top of you overnight. it s always a sleepless night when a hurricane is in this area. and let me very quickly share with you, newport is a small town above, approximately, 4300 people. we re a midway between the world s largest marine corp air station, marine corp associate cherry point. and moorehead city, atlantic beach. so we re ten miles from the beach. ten miles from cherry point. of course, being ten miles from
tornado warnings. this area here, you re favorable location to deal with weak tornadoes as we go throughout the evening. it s nighttime. you won t see them. they move quickly with these storms so just keep your family safe in your rooms. here s your latest forecast track just out from the hurricane center. they expect landfall after about 10:00 a.m. or so in extreme eastern north carolina on the outer banks. most likely as a category 1. weakening it down a little bit from a 2 to 1. interesting, as we go throughout the forecast. it doesn t weaken. if it hits even north carolina at 90 it exits at 85. that s the closest approach to virginia beach and the norfolk area and then saturday area into sunday morning they still have it as 80 mile per hour hurricane off the jersey shore. what they get tonight and the damage that curse in eastern north carolina, you can extrapolate that up the coast.
and a half of rain with max winds of 80 to 100 miles per hour. up the coast, the new jersey coastline and delaware and maryland coastal areas. if you live i in those areas this information is for you. your main impact it will start as we go throughout the night tonight but the peak is tomorrow afternoon until 4:00 a.m. sunday morning. i ll give you the all-clear on the jersey shore by about 4:00 sunday afternoon. once again, some storm surge, not devastate. the rainfall is going to be crazy. four to eight widespread with max being 12 to 15 inches of rain. this area has already gotten a lot of rain. max winds 70 to 90. and the last zone, coastal connecticut, rhode island, massachusetts, long island and new york city. your impact as you go throughout your saturday afternoon, the initial rain and wind squalls but the peak of the storm for southern new england coastal areas will be 4:00 a.m. sunday to 2:00 p.m. on sunday.
