A private, for-profit compost-making startup is seeking customers sufficiently concerned about planetary degradation to pay to redirect their kitchen wastes away from the regional landfill to be converted into a soil amendment.
Saturday night, a mysterious bronze figure appeared outside the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op on Grandin Road, seated on a curbside bench. It’s a life-size rendition of the late James Tarpley, self-appointed handyman/watchdog of the Grandin Village business district.
It returns Dec. 8 in the Grandin Village Business District and on residential streets in Raleigh Court. There will be prizes awarded for the best holiday costume and bike decorations.
