New Delhi, Dec 26 (PTI) India will witness more than 83 per cent increase in investments in renewable energy projects to around USD 16.5 billion in 2024 as the country focuses on energy transition to reduce carbon emissions, according to power ministry estimates.

The Union power ministry proposed a substantial 91 GW addition to coal-based thermal power, investing Rs 7.28 lakh crore. The minister said 27,180 MW of thermal capacity is under construction, 12,000 MW has been bid out and 19,000 MW is under clearances. The total anticipated thermal capacity addition by 2031-2032 will be 87,910 MW.
