Carlsbad Mayor: Rain welcome in city. Few incidents reported Dale Janway Thursday’s rain was very welcome. Our monitor at the airport reported 1.8 inches of rain, while individuals in north and central Carlsbad reported receiving more than 2.2 inches. A flood advisory was in effect for a portion of Thursday evening, with some requests for barricades near James Street. The chance of rain dropped Friday morning and there did not appear to be any significant issues in the morning. We hope to see more rain. Riverblitz returns to Carlsbad for 22nd year Saturday

Delayed by COVID-19 in March, Eddy County’s 22nd annual Riverblitz trash cleanup is Saturday, said Keep Carlsbad Beautiful Director Mary Garwood. She d hoped this year’s edition would have its normal spot, the first Saturday in March, but it was delayed as the pandemic brought restrictions on large public gatherings.  Riverblitz starts Saturday at 7 a.m. at the Riverwalk Recreation Center where volunteers will receive materials like trash bags and other items to use in the cleanup and then head out to areas along the Pecos River to pick up trash.  “I just wanted to see how our color coding would go,” Garwood said.
