Royal Berkshire Hospital is sending recovering patients to the Holiday Inn Reading hotel to help free up beds

In December, Reading Borough Council (RBC) took the decision to support the Berkshire West Health and Social Care System by creating a facility at Holiday Inn Reading South for those who have recently been discharged from hospital. At the hotel, patients can experience prompt, safe discharges from hospital in order to free up as many NHS beds as possible to ease the pressure of the healthcare system.

Alberta Health Services is hiring to bolster its COVID-19 immunization efforts amid a slower-than-expected rollout of the vaccine, the pace of which has picked up in recent days.
But while AHS officials won’t say how many people they hope to recruit, they insist there’s a sufficient workforce to deliver the 46,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines that have been delivered to the province.

“AHS has the staffing needed to deliver all current supply of the vaccine,” said an AHS statement provided Thursday.
What’s happening now
The province is estimating 1,300 cases of COVID-19 for its Jan. 1 update, and 900 cases for its Jan. 2 update.
Anyone arriving in Canada starting Jan. 7 will need to have a negative COVID-19 test before boarding and may have to quarantine in a federal facility if they have inadequate isolation plans, the federal government says.
