MelroseWakefield Healthcare awards grants
MelroseWakefield Healthcare, in collaboration with Shields Surgery Center Medford, is awarding $120,000 in grants to Massachusetts-based programs as part of a Community Health Initiative.
The recipients are nonprofit organizations and municipalities with approaches to improve the health of their communities through meaningful and sustainable change. They include Wakefield Board of Health, MetroNorth YMCA, the city of Malden, Boys and Girls Club of Wakefield and Stoneham, and Riverside Community Care.
MelroseWakefield Healthcare partnered with Shields Health Care Group and Tufts Medical Center Physicians Organization in development of the ambulatory surgery center, and surgeons from seven physician practices will operate there. The 14,000-square-foot newly-constructed outpatient surgery center features three operating rooms and two procedure rooms and performed its first surgery in December.

IBM introduced the first desktop PC in 1981 the same year as Sage’s inception in Newcastle, UK, developing an estimating and accounting software for small businesses. Sage has since grown to almost a 2 billion USD worldwide organization. Sage’s group CEO, Stephen Kelly took the helm in November 2014 and the company’s technology strategy is finally in the right trajectory. Until Kelly, Sage is one of the last accounting software firms to offer cloud-centric solutions. This strategic delay by its previous leadership has had consequences market-share loss to competitors such as Microsoft Dynamics GP, Intuit, Saasu, Xero, Netsuite, and other AAMEA (Australia, Asia, Middle East and Africa) and European players all of whom offered faster implementation via online accounting cloud alternatives early in the game.

Important vaccine information
Beginning the week of Feb. 1, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is opening vaccine eligibility to adults aged 75 and older. The second step of Phase 2 eligibility includes residents 65 years and older and people with two or more risk factors.
It’s important to recognize that Phase 2 includes a large group of people and is slated to run February through April. Not everyone will be able to be vaccinated immediately.
As anticipated, the vaccine will be distributed in many places, including large state sites (such as Fenway Park), pharmacies, doctors’ offices and other locations. Consider checking with your primary healthcare provider about vaccination plans.
