The annual fireworks show was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was set to be cancelled again in 2021 due to the inability to secure the needed financial support, according to the events website. However, actor Will Smith and his production company, Westbrook, stepped in to make it happen, according to the City. According to a City of New Orleans spokesperson, Smith donated $100,000 to make the fireworks show happen after learning there wouldn t be one this year.
