For the sixth time in its 51-year history, Ragbrai riders will once again be coming to Burlington to dip their tires in the Mississippi River this July.
Burlington, IA- Burlington Riverfront Entertainment will celebrate the new year with a new indoor ice skating rink at Burlington Memorial Auditorium during the month of January. The synthetic rink will be placed on the arena floor, and is able to hold about 70 to 100 skaters at a time. Admission will be $10 per skater and $5 for skate rental. Skaters are allowed to bring their own skates, and admission will be free for non-skaters. Skating aids will be available for those who are disabled or need special assistance on the ice. Concessions will also be available. "This is something that David and I have been talking about doing for a few years now" BRE's executive director, Mike O'Neil shared. "We originally wanted to do real ice outside but the cost to do it just wasn't feasible and the winter weather can be very unpredictable. Burlington, IA- Burlington Memorial Auditorium will soon host a new acrylic ice skating rink. Burlington Riverfront Entertainment president Dana Johnston told the Burlington City Council on Monday that their goal with the rink is to provide a safe, accessible, family-friendly attraction to the community. Johnston said that BRE is planning to have the rink installed and open by January 2023. "If we could get a tentative purchase date of November 22nd, it would be installed the first week of January, and then it would be open for the whole month of January," Johnston said. Johnston also said that the rink could return to the auditorium at other times throughout the year. The council agreed to cover the cost of purchasing the rink, along with equipment and insurance, totaling $132,500. BRE agreed to pay the city back annually over a 4 year period.
