It s no secret that thousands have been flocking to the Treasure Coast over the years, especially retirees.
Stuart and Vero Beach made the top 10 best places to retire in Florida ranked No. 4 and No. 7, respectively according to a 2021 SmartAsset study, which analyzed tax-friendliness, medical care and social opportunities to determine city standings.
The study considered both income and sales tax based on an average retiree income of $35,000; it also calculated the number of doctors’ offices, recreation centers and retirement centers and the seniors in each city as a percentage of the total population.
Stuart s senior population accounts for 28.8% of residents, the study found. The city has 3.3 recreation centers,14.1 doctors offices and 0.5 retirement centers per 1,000 people, in addition to a 13.6% tax burden, that earned it an overall retirement index of 58.18.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) Every day for the past 42 years, Karen Fleming has been excited to wake up and teach. She doesn’t consider it a job, but a calling.
“Everyday you come in and you really make a difference in a kid’s life,” especially for the students struggling most, she said.
She’s taught the past 24 years at Riverbend Academy, a school that educates youth with trauma-informed pasts and is affiliated with SandyPines Hospital in Tequesta, a psychiatric facility for youth ages 5 through 17. As a teacher and emotional and behavioral specialist, she oversees and develops protocols for understanding and addressing students’ behaviors.
