NEW SMYRNA BEACH After four years of frustration and perseverance by the owners, the new River Deck New Smyrna Beach restaurant has finally opened for business, and to rave reviews from longtime locals. We found problems with the foundation and then ran into permitting problems, said Connie Fuerst, who owns the new restaurant along with her husband Matt and business partners Ken Bots and Vernon Kuftic. The four also own the popular Ocean Deck Restaurant & Beach Club off A1A in Daytona Beach.
The new eatery opened its doors on Jan. 22. It is at the River Deck Marina, which the four partners also own, at 107 N. Riverside Drive. It s just a few yards north of downtown New Smyrna Beach s historic Canal Street, but you can t see it if you drive by. The restaurant is in a standalone building behind the separately owned bait shop that fronts Riverside Drive.
An approval would open the way for a new tenant, suggested marina general manager Warren Smith. We haven t advertised it yet because we ve still got to finish the building, Mr Smith said. There used to be a sails structure out the back and out the front and they were looking a bit tired so we ve taken those down and build a roof over the top. We took the opportunity of doing works during the (COVID) lockdown and the River Deck tenancy was ending in May anyway, he said. The 2A tenancy shows the old Noosa River Deck eatery which is looking for a makeover.
