A ramble with a pub en route of course. We pick 8 of our favourite dog walks in Cornwall with dog-friendly pubs along the way. Near the small, historic beach of Crantock near Newquay, is a hidden gem that is definitely worth exploring. Crantock beach is a huge stretch of sand cared for by the National Trust and voted Best British Beach by BBC Coast in 2013. Flanked by sand dunes and with fantastic surf, the beach is dog-friendly all year round and with lots of space available, it’s a great place to chase a ball and cool off in the waves.

Environment Agency questioned over Helston flood defence scheme

The effectiveness of a £2 million flood prevention scheme for Helston has been called into question after parts of the Penrose Estate were left under four feet of water – just weeks after a councillor claimed the town came close to an absolute flooding disaster. However, the Environment Agency has said the defences are working as they should be and has denied there is a problem.  It is after a weekend of heavy rainfall at the start of last week resulted in flooding around the area of Loe Pool and Degibna. A bridge normally passable on foot was left submerged, with one runner telling the Packet how he had to turn back after water reached his knees and was still getting deeper.

Flood warnings issued for Devon and Cornwall following day of heavy rain The rain appears to be easing up in some places but the Environment Agency has warned many homes remain at risk of flooding The video will auto-play soon8Cancel Play now Parts of Cornwall and Devon remain underwater after a day of heavy rain resulted in flooding across the two counties. It’s certainly been a wet Sunday for most and although the rain is now beginning to ease, The Environment Agency has issued a number of flood warnings. Areas at risk are the River Cober at Helston and Trenear and the River Hayle from Relubbus to St Erth.

Vandalism at Coronation Park in Helston: police crime number

Vandals have struck at one of Helston s most popular beauty spots - and police are now involved. The park team said it was sad to report that at some point between 3pm on Monday, December 28 and 9am on Tuesday, December 29 there were a number of incidents of nuisance vandalism in Coronation Park. These included the litter bin by the shelter next to be boating lake disappearing – with fears it is now in the adjacent River Cober. The team said: Based on the evidence – marks on the fence and drag marks on the bank to the river – we believe the bin has been thrown into the river.
