tonight s crime beat. good evening, laura. reporter: shannon, the mass shooting in sacramento over the weekend that left six people dead and several injured not only stunned the capital city for the sheer scale of the crime but as residents learn more about the criminal history of one of the men allegedly involved who the district attorney had tried to keep locked up before his release earlier this year. shooting happened early sunday morning just down the street from california s state capitol outside of a night club. sacramento police say the mass killing involved at least five shooters from rival gangs. two suspects who are brothers have been arrested. one of the men, 27-year-old smiley martin, has a long criminal history and was released on probation from state prison in february after serving roughly half of a 10-year sentence. his release was something the sacramento district attorney ann marie schubert strongly objected to. she said martin posed a
