Back in the Day: Lee Bell, the man and the park

Back in the Day: Lee Bell, the man and the park Lee Dale Bell was born in 1896 and married Armijo High Class of 1933 grad Doris Lambrecht in 1943. The Bells and Lambrechts are well-known old-school Fairfield names, as is the married name of Doris’ sister, Carol Falati. Near-lifelong Fairfielder Gary Falati, who was mayor of Fairfield for a record 16 years, is Lee Bell’s nephew. “My Uncle Lee was firm, but always fair. He was always about business. He was a buyer for the California Packing Corporation and worked at the huge three-story canning building that Del Monte later bought that used to be on Union Avenue before you got to the railroad tracks that split Fairfield and Suisun,” Falati said. “He was one of the major buyers for Suisun Valley. He knew every farmer out there and bought a lot of fruit between here and Winters.”
