Its diverse, and critical to the way that americans live. In response, those of us at phmsa are addressing the issues at hand, but just important, were going beyond the issues at hand. We have challenged ourselves to invest in and plan for the future of our agency. Today, i would like to share some of our challenges and some of our opportunities. How were responding to our ever growing mission, and our longterm Strategic Vision for advancing safety through our phmsa 2021 framework. Growing up, my dad used to say he could fix anything with a pair of pliers, some duct tape, and wd40. And of course, he was absolutely right. He could fix anything. But what he likely didnt think about was the process involved in getting his tools of choice to him safely. Wd40 is a hazardous liquid transported in an aerosol can, and it has to be regulated during shipment. And it also cant be permitted on any kind of passenger aircraft and it has to follow very specific Hazardous Material labeling and packagi
So some Risk Assessment. Are calculated. And the items variy at all of them contained history and the rest simply a few different categories, and conclude and bills, education and demographic variables and particularly gender age and include psycho social and in a corrections official and they ask things et cetera. Explicit variables and rather this was not always true and many words until explicit based but the modern instruments because theyre essentially indicators of poverty and so we can expect these instruments to have a racially impact. In my view many of the variables that go into the scores are simply inappropriate and possibly illegal factors on which to base the treatment of criminal defendant. And im not saying that those things are not correlated or predictive of recidivism. Crime is obviously correlated with poverty in our society, although we should remember that the extent of that correlation may be exaggerated by what the fact the recidivism they measure getting caught
So whenever the federal structure it cannot be a single solution it does come now in different ways and Different Things work with different communities where there are different challenges and opportunities from the of resource perspective we continue to find those great examples to drive that innovation. With respect to the potential coming to the United States it is we are trying to do the right thing. We are trying to do the other right thing. Its something that we have learned how to do better screening people. The experience we have
It is infused into my Medicare Medicaid work. You have to have someone overseeing the Big Mental Health stent, not just the targeted dollars. How do we ensure that insurers are following through with the changes made. We hear on a daily basis that they had taken this guarantee. But we need to do is what this bill does which sheds light on the processes t
