MARBLEHEAD - There is an unexpected connection between addiction recovery and yoga. Both focus on self-study, on healthy coping techniques and on viable support.
Whether in an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting or on the yoga mat, participants strive to push through the pain to find healing.
At Soul Stretch Yoga, Doug Sabin combines recovery and yoga in his unique Yoga for Recovery class.
“We’ve incorporated the program of AA into the class. It’s a yoga class, but there’s a message to get people to think. In recovery, you have to have pain to grow, and it’s the same with yoga,” Doug said. “The whole goal is community and fellowship.”
