A highly-experienced former Rio Tinto Yarwun engineer has accused the mining giant of allowing a bullying culture at the site, which has been denied by the company. When he tendered his resignation in writing to Rio Tinto in December last year, the man said his 30 page letter contained 58 reasons he chose to quit. The 63-year-old man, who asked not to be named, told The Observer he first officially reported the alleged bullying in October 2018. Following a thorough investigation by the company’s human resources team, the complaint was found to be unsubstantiated and the case was closed in November 2019. Despite claiming he was placed “under extreme psychological pressure” while his complaint was investigated, the man said he decided to honour the outcome and move forward.
