2 mánaða gömul. 16.02.2021 - 14:26  Mynd: Vilhjálmur Þór Guðmundsson - RÚV Rio Tinto, which operates the aluminium smelter at Straumsvík near Hafnarfjörður, has withdrawn its complaint to the competition authority over Landsvirkjun’s electricity prices after the companies signed a new contract. The possibility that the smelter would shut down altogether has now been removed. The supplemental contract was announced yesterday and will see Landsvirkjun provide 390 megawatts a year until 2036.  A joint statement says that the new contract places more emphasis on the plant’s competitiveness. The basis for the energy price has changed. Still tied to the American dollar and the US Consumer Price Index, it is now also partially dictated by world aluminium prices.
