TULSA A controversial new operatic piece penned for the Tulsa Race Massacre centennial will be released in a new format in time later this month to mark the 100th anniversary of the atrocity.
Directed by filmmaker and multimedia artist Yoram Savion, “They Still Want to Kill Us will premiere on YouTube and Facebook. Beginning May 26, it will stream for free on the Opera Philadelphia Channel, ApolloTheater.org and elsewhere until July 31. They Still Want to Kill Us recounts the events of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, one of the worst episodes of racial violence in U.S. history. Between May 31 and June 1, 1921, mobs of white residents attacked, set aflame and devastated the Greenwood District, which was at that time one of the wealthiest Black communities in the United States, earning it the name Black Wall Street.
