The Academy of Finland has taken decisions on the latest round of PROFI funding, a funding scheme aimed at bolstering the research profiles of Finnish universities. The decisions were made in two stages: on 13 December 2023 and 12 January 2023. The total amount applied for by the universities was 175 million euros, and the Academy’s funding totals 100 million euros. The granted sums range from 2.2 million euros to 30.1 million euros. Funding was granted to nine universities.
The Finnish Research Infrastructure Committee established within the Academy of Finland has decided to grant funding to 19 research infrastructure projects. The projects will be carried out in different parts of Finland and will have impact both locally and regionally.
The funding supports the upgrading or construction of local research infrastructures and puts emphasis on targets related to the green and digital transition.
The roadmap for national research infrastructures in Finland is a list of research infrastructure services of strategic importance for Finland’s research, education and innovation (RDI) that will be needed over the next 10–15 years. The new roadmap for 2021–2024 describes for the first time the national and international research infrastructure landscape that is important from Finland’s perspective. The previous national roadmap was published in 2014.

Valtiovarainministeriön tänään (13.8.) julkistaman budjettiehdotuksen mukaan Suomen Akatemian kautta kanavoitava tutkimusrahoitus pienenee vuonna 2022 noin 40 miljoonalla eurolla kuluvaan vuoteen verrattuna. Leikkauksen taustalla on rahapelituottojen alenemisen kompensaatioon liittyvät vielä ratkaisemattomat kysymykset. Tätä ennen kevään kehysri.
