Musings on Mouse
Ricky Strauss departure was a longtime coming

In the midst of America quite literally under siege by an extremist mob hellbent on destroying the country’s democratic core the very thing they’ve belligerently, dangerously, and wrongly accused elected lawmakers of tarnishing for more than four years, all stemming from listening to a tyrant use and abuse any platform available to him there was a little bit of Disney news.
(I’ll be honest with you: it’s hard to concentrate on anything other than the political chaos taking place, so this week’s
Musings on Mouse may not be as fruitful as months past. Still, I want to write a little bit about Disney+ and the most recent executive departure that many people in the industry have theorized or known about for some time. )
Ending a nine-year tenure with Disney, the head of programming for both streamers is leaving. January 7, 2021
Ricky Strauss, president of programming and content curation for Disney+ and Hulu, is leaving the Walt Disney Company after nine years.
The move was characterized as a “personal decision” in an internal memo from direct-to-consumer and international operations chair Rebecca Campbell.
Strauss said in a memo of his own that he intends to pursue new creative endeavors. He attributed his departure to the recent spate of restructuring at the company that began in October and subsequent changes to his role, which he felt would not provide him with the opportunity to do the kind of work he loves to do and make the “intended impact” at Disney.
He was associated with the organisation for over nine years.

NEW DELHI: Ricky Strauss, The Walt Disney Studio president marketing and one of the key executives who launched Disney+, is moving on from the organisation after nine years.
Post the big restructuring at Disney last year, Strauss was assigned a new role as president of programming and content curation for Disney+ and Hulu. I have come to the decision that it is time for me to move on to pursue new creative endeavours. It took much thought and consideration, but with our new structure and the changes to my role, the reorganisation does not provide me with the opportunity to do the kind of work I love to do and to continue making the intended impact I have been so fortunate to have achieved at Disney, Strauss wrote in an internal memo to his team.

The extraordinary breach of democratic order blamed by both parties on the president’s incitement forced members to flee the House and Senate floors under armed guard, delaying Congress’ constitutionally mandated count of electoral college votes.
Four people died a woman from San Diego who was shot by U.S. Capitol Police and three others who, according to D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee, died in “medical emergencies.” Several police officers were injured, as was a rioter who reportedly fell from a Capitol balcony.
The attack brought the congressional proceedings to a halt for hours, but early Thursday morning, Congress confirmed Biden as the winner of the presidential election. Soon after, a statement attributed to Trump said there “will be an orderly transition on January 20th.”
