New local volleyball federation officially recognized by international governing body

Senior Reporter NEWLY formed Philippine National Volleyball Federation, Inc. (PNVFI) has been officially recognized by the sport’s international governing body. On the final day of its world congress done online on Sunday, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) moved to accept the Ramon Suzara-headed PNVFI to its fold and make the latter Philippine volleyball’s legitimate representative. A total of 155 national federations out of a possible 190 votes approved the FIVB’s recognition of the PNVFI. Out of a possible 190 votes, three said no, 13 abstained and 20 said they did not receive the question. Before recognizing the PNVFI, the FIVB asked its members to vote on the PNVFI’s election as Philippine volleyball’s representative in the federation held on Jan. 25 that was overseen by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

PLDT, Cignal take acts to PVL

Published February 4, 2021, 10:31 PM Philippine Superliga teams PLDT and Cignal are set to transfer to the Premier Volleyball League. Organizer Sports Vision President Ricky Palou confirmed this Thursday night a few hours after the league announced its three-year broadcast partnership with Cignal TV. “We’ve got PLDT. They confirmed that they are joining the PVL and likewise the Cignal team,” Palou said during guesting in The Game on One Sports+. Known as the PLDT Home Fibr Hitters in the Superliga, the team won bronze in the 2019 Grand Prix Conference under coach Roger Gorayeb. Their last stint was at the 2019 Invitational, where they finished fifth.

Cignal TV to air PVL games

Published February 4, 2021, 5:12 PM The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has found a new broadcast partner in Cignal TV, organizer Sports Vision Management Group announced Thursday. The partnership will span to three years as the league targets to resume competition on April 10 in a bubble-type setting at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna. “The addition of the PVL to our lineup ensures millions of Filipino volleyball fans access to their favorite teams and players across our platforms, along with other top-tier local and international sports content,” said Robert P. Galang, President and CEO of Cignal TV & TV5. “We are proud to share the PVL’s vision of uplifting Philippine volleyball and being competitive not only locally, but internationally as well.”
