A fallen Queensland police officer told his wife just days before he was murdered that he had been âtold zipâ about the search for his eventual killer because he was âin the B-Teamâ.
The coronial inquest into the death of Senior Constable Brett Forte and his killer, Ricky Maddison, also heard from a former colleague of the slain officer, who recounted walking past the killerâs hide-out while off-duty and out hiking a few days before the shooting.

The spiralling mental state of a wanted gunman and the communication breakdowns within Queensland police were the recurring themes during the first day of the coronial inquest into the deaths of Senior Constable Brett Forte and his killer, Ricky Maddison.
It was also revealed by one of Maddisonâs friends, Andrew Beveridge, that the fatal encounter between Maddison and Forte almost never happened, because Mr Beveridge was going to take his friend to the Gold Coast that day, until he changed his mind at the last minute.
