Dragons Hit FTs, Beat Potosi

By Editor | January 12, 2021 By ERIC X. VICCARO EVICCARO@STEGENHERALD.COM Ste. Genevieve High School head boys’ basketball coach Robert Coleman has a tradition of starting as many seniors as possible on “Senior Night.” It serves as a reward for the players who have been with the program the longest; this year, Chaytin Lea, Landon Rose, Logan Trollinger and Anthony Nash. The seniors, and the rest of the Dragons, rewarded the coach with a come-from-behind 65-60 victory over Potosi in a heated, pivotal Mineral Area Activities Association Large School Division contest. “It was a great win for our seniors on Senior Night,” Coleman said. “Those guys played well.”

Hunter, Dragons Prevail

By ERIC X. VICCARO EVICCARO@STEGENHERALD.COM PARK HILLS Coming into Sechrest Tournament, the Ste. Genevieve High School boys’ basketball team was scheduled to play Arcadia Valley. However, COVID-19 (coronavirus) forced Arcadia Valley out of the longtime event, and that put the Dragons in the uneasy position of playing host Central’s junior varsity unit. All sorts of scenarios on the outcome of the game danced in Ste. Genevieve head coach Robert Coleman’s mind. In the end, the Dragons downed the Rebels 81-50 in front of an expected decidedly partisan crowd at Foulon Field House. “I’m glad we were able to pull away, and all 12 guys played and scored,” Coleman said, sounding relieved.

Height A Factor In Dragons' Home Loss – Ste. Genevieve Herald

By Editor | December 23, 2020 By ERIC X. VICCARO EVICCARO@STEGENHERALD.COM Scheduling in the middle of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has proven to become a difficult challenge. This past Friday evening was a case in point as the Class 4 Ste. Genevieve High School boys’ basketball team played Class 6 Fort Zumwalt North at Peggy J. Johnson Gymnasium. “They are a very big team,” said Ste. Genevieve head coach Robert Coleman. “They are tall with a lot of size, and they outrebounded us.” Coleman said the Panthers, in turn, were able to score points in transition with outlet passes leading to layups. Fort Zumwalt North’s front court averages 6-feet, 8-inches in height so this was truly a “tall task” for the hometown Dragons.
