“The purpose of the celebration is to thank God for the gift of faith then and now. We thank the Lord for all His blessings. That no matter how difficult it might be to be away from home and our loved ones, our faith helps us to get through it all as it gives meaning to all our experiences as migrant workers. Our faith sustains us and keeps us alive,” said Rev. Fr. Ricky Gente, chaplain of the Sentro Pilipino Chaplaincy (SPC) in Rome, Italy.
“The SPC is in solidarity with the Philippines in celebrating the 500 Years of Christian Faith. Filipinos all over the world are commemorating the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines and we, the Sentro Pilipino Chaplaincy under the Diocese of Rome would like to participate in this historical event,” the priest said.
VATICAN: Pope Francis celebrated Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica on Sunday to mark 500 years since the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines.
At the conclusion of the Eucharistic celebration, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, formerly the Archbishop of Manila, expressed the gratitude of all Filipinos for the Pope’s gesture of closeness.

Pope Francis to mark 500 years of Catholic faith in the Philippines with Mass

Pope Francis will offer Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica on March 14 to mark 500 years of Catholic faith in the Philippines.
The Mass will be attended by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the former archbishop of Manila, as well as Filipino Catholics living in Rome.
The celebration will livestream from the Vatican to reach the many Filipinos around the world. The Mass will air on EWTN in Canada on at 3 a.m. Alberta time ( 5 a.m. EST) and 10 a.m. (12 p.m. EST encore). It can be viewed on cable or on the EWTN website, https://www.ewtn.com/tv/watch-live or through the EWTN app on mobile devices.
