ATHANASIA LANDIS
Lately it seems that the Fredonia water system is constantly in the news as well as in many people’s minds; for a good reason too. After an almost three-week long boiling water order, problems still persist.
Personally speaking, my water at long last looks OK, but it doesn’t taste the way it used to. Lack of information and/or any communication from the village government has given way to rumors and theories that further the confusion and public discontent. Although many things have changed in the last year some basic facts remain the same.
Early in 2016 when I was trying to get familiar with the whole water issue, I found out that North Chautauqua County Water District already had a long history of going back and forth with the village of Fredonia. I got a quick summary of the two sides of it by then County Executive Vince Horrigan and Rick St George who was the village clerk, treasurer and administrator at the time.
