it looks like it will run dry within the next ten years. that would automatically cut benefits from 23% for every single american who needs those programs. medicare funding is vanishing even faster. the timing of all of this of trying to figure out what to do comes during a fierce battle that s happening in the nation s capital over spending. the debt growing precipitously. the stand-off between republican lawmakers and white house over raising the borrowing limits. democrats want to spend, spend, spend. republicans want to slash and save. speaker mccarthy says we had better find a way to check off the spending fast. i want to look the president in the eye and tell me there is not $1 of wasteful spending in government? who believes that? the american public doesn t believe that. our whole government is designed to have compromise, let s find common ground and let s eliminate the wasteful spending to protect the hard-working taxpayers and protect the future of america.
omar say that she said this yesterday during that press conference that the three of them gave together. she said that removing them and particularly herself off of the intel committee, is against national security interests. that it is actually dangerous. what do you think she was talking about? i think she is just making up stuff to make it sound worse. senator, we ve both been part of political gamesmanship but interesting to say speaker mccarthy was bowing to political pressure. who was speaker pelosi bowing to when she kicked green and goss are off. she was punished for stuff before she was a member of congress. these folks are being called out for things happening while they were members of congress. this is a different issue but again let s not say this bowing to political pressure. i mean, if it s one for 1, 1 for the other. the point is they both do it.
committees and they didn t get selected for whatever reason. i think it s because he had to bow to the hard right in his caucus. but here is the thing i always say about things like this. when people do this on personal attacks i had this happen to me when i was serving on a governor s panel. the senate and house and state of alaska booted me off because they didn t want me on there they didn t like me politically. i ran won mayor twice and become a u.s. senator. be careful what you do when you play back and forth politics. if the speaker doesn t want them on the committee that s a choice he gets to make. at the end of the day, be careful what you ask for. those three have a lot of experience and i would venture that say i m sure republican congressman has the same view on both sides you have people with situations that maybe you don t want them on certain committees but they are on and it is what it is. it s the people s house. harris: i want to go here with you, doug. when you hear
he put social security and medicare on the chopping block. harris: in focus now senator rick scott, member of homeland security and armed services committee. great to have you in focus. look, i laid it out for what s at stake. the time numbers are really alarming. ten years or less it will go by very quickly for people who totally depend on those programs, medicare and social sec security. i would never cut medicare or social security. i will do everything i can to make sure there are no cuts in medicare and social security. the democrats all voted to cut 280 billion out of medicare last september and biden signed it. 280 billion they cut and want to say other people will do it. here is what we have to do. we have to grow our economy. here is what s going on right now. the left, the big government crowd, wall street are saying you have to spend more money,
this is the ridiculous part of what congress is going through today. the people are pissed off because all they do is back and forth. what i would like them to focus on, the fed and how they are raising interest rates and i would like them to work on the issues that matter to american people. they won t. harris: if you want to do some of that advocates talk to the white house and get the white house to negotiate with republicans. that s where i started this hour with senator rick scott. they want to talk medicare and social security. doug, then i ll come back to you, senator. i agree with the senator let s look at bigger things. there was not this discussion kicking off republicans. it goes back and forth. let s get this behind us and move forward. they made the decision, republican speaker has made his decision, now a step forward and let s get on with the business of this country and harris: and get the white house engage and negotiate with
