hasn t actually made his final decision yet. mitch mcconnell is pushing him to run out of fear that kris kobach might win the primary and lose the general. and president trump is agnostic about it. meanwhile, the president has been sounding out lawmakers and officials and tossing around names and seeing who might be interested. and that s created this quiet but heated internal competition. on one hand, there is robert o brien, the national security adviser who is in president trump s favor, who has done a good job. pompeo likes him. everybody seems to like him. on the other hand, there is treasure secretary steve mnuchin who is said to be angling for the job. there is ambassador to germany rick renel, steve bebegin. these are the guys who are the leading contenders. and they re all waiting for pompeo to tell us what he is going to do so they can figure out what their options are. you also mentioned steve mnuchin who according to your reporting is angling for the position. there are p
stand on issues but also in terms of a senate confirmation. that s totally right. steve mnuchin was confirmed to be treasury secretary 53-47 because he had in no experience at all there is a lot of concern inside national security issues that he is dovish on china and he is too wall street focused and he doesn t really have any diplomatic experience. so that s a problem. rick renel is also not really liked by senate democrats. in the end, i think that there is going if you have o brien coming in after pompeo, again, if pompeo leaves, you ll see a loft continuity. steve mnuchin, that would be a big change in our foreign policy. yes, it would. we have to see what president trump really wants to do and where he wants to go. which is key, dependent on what the president wants. a look at secretary pompeo, one of the president s staunchest defenders within the administration. and if part of the job description for being secretary of state is going to be following in his footsteps,
track record, i was just over in germany meeting the ambassador rick renel, very hard line position against the germans interference with europe. i was traveling with mike pompeo. he s trying to get the turks not to buy the s-400 missiles. he s trying to get the indians to stop buying the russian missiles, anti-missile system. so this is very positive step. they actually have very strong priorities, they re working towards implementing those and getting results. so if you look at the track record, i always say donald trump is the results president because no matter what you think about the tweets and comments he might be making on this or that, the truth is he s bringing home real results for the american people. well, chris ruddy i appreciate you offering perspective on the results the president has gotten and entertaining the tough questions as well. and doing so from very far away once again. thank you, sir, and be well. thank you. always great to be on with you. the pleasure
problems, at least we have to start maybe not being so politically correct. does president obama s failure make it harder to fight them? joining me now is rick renel and simon rosenberg. is the president s correctness hurting our ability to stop attacks and there by causing more american deaths? i want to say my condolences to families of the marines and those injured and hats off to the courageous officers in chattanooga. i don t like the term islamic extremism. is that when you watch a baseball game on tv announcers don t talk about the baseball players on the field they talk about them by position. short stop centerfield think we have to use the most precise language possible to describe our adversaries in order to make sure we have
you know what s interesting is when we go into a country and we leave, there is a vacuum created and it seems like al qaeda is coming. in we are going to leave afghanistan and there is no question the taliban is coming back. so, if when you talk about saddam hussein and even mubarak, they were more secular. now it seems that it s the religious calafate. it s all about one religion or one part of one religion fighting another. these religious wars, can they ever be won? well, it s a very good question and i think it s extremely difficult. fact that we made so much progress in iraq. that we should have had a status of forces agreement which means at the end of our time, keep a small base, just keep a small base there that s what we should have done. we didn t do it it obama couldn t negotiate. not only that telling them exactly when we are leaving afghanistan, too. anyw, rick renel thanks so much for being with us. a he growing crisis at the border. thousands of children streamin
